Puff Printing Clothing Manufacturer for Private Label Brands

Puff printing gives a design real height. The ink swells under heat and rises off the fabric, so a logo can be seen and felt. Fashion Flair is a puff printing clothing manufacturer based in Sialkot, Pakistan, and we run puff on hoodies, sweatshirts, tees, varsity jackets and sportswear for private label brands. You deal with one contact and one timeline.

This page covers how puff printing works, the difference between oil-based and water-based puff, which designs suit it, and what to send us for a quote.

What Is Puff Printing?

Puff printing is a screen printing technique. A special additive is mixed into the ink, the design is printed through a screen like any other screen print, and then heat makes the additive expand. The ink lifts into a soft, raised surface with a 3D effect, without stitching or thick layers of ink.

Brands use it for logos, lettering and bold graphics on streetwear, varsity-style pieces and sportswear. Because it is a form of screen printing, each colour still needs its own screen. If you want to see how the wider process works, read our page on screen printing for clothing brands.

Oil-Based vs. Water-Based Puff Printing

We run both, and the choice changes how your garment looks and feels. A good puff printing clothing manufacturer will help you choose based on your fabric and your brand, not on what is easiest for the factory.

Oil-based puffWater-based puff
LookBold, defined raise with strong, opaque colourSofter, more natural raise with a matte finish
FeelFirm and smoothSoft and flexible, closer to the fabric
Best onCotton and cotton blends, light or dark100% cotton, especially lighter garments
Good forLogos, lettering, streetwear, varsity piecesPremium, vintage-style and comfort-focused labels

Not sure which to pick? Send us your design and the fabric you plan to use, and we will recommend one and show you a test print.

Puff Printing vs. High-Density vs. Embroidery

All three add texture, but they behave differently.

MethodResultBest for
Puff printingSoft, rounded raiseLogos, lettering, bold shapes
High-density / 3D siliconeTaller, sharp-edged raise, often glossyClean edges and a strong 3D look
EmbroideryStitched thread textureSmall logos, caps, jackets, polos

As a puff printing clothing manufacturer, we usually find puff costs less than embroidery on larger graphics, and it is lighter on the garment. If you want crisper edges than puff can give, we will suggest high-density or 3D silicone printing instead.

Design Tips From a Puff Printing Clothing Manufacturer

Puff ink spreads slightly as it rises, so some designs work better than others. Before we make any screens, we check your file and adjust it for puff. These are the rules we follow most:

  • Use bold shapes and thick lines. Hairlines and very small text can blur or close up as the ink expands.
  • Leave space between elements. Tight gaps can fill in during expansion.
  • Avoid seams, zips and pockets. Prints across uneven surfaces can rise unevenly or crack.
  • Do not cover very large areas. A big block of puff can feel heavy. Puffing only part of the design keeps the garment comfortable.
  • Combine puff with flat prints. A puff logo over a flat print, or flat print next to puff lettering, adds depth without adding bulk.

Garments and Placements We Puff Print

Common placements are chest, back, sleeve, hem and lower front. We can print on garments we make for you or on blanks you supply. For a full brand build, see our private label clothing manufacturing service.

How Our Puff Printing Process Works

  1. Send your brief. Artwork, garment type, quantity and target colours. Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) are best.
  2. Artwork check and mockup. We adjust the file for puff, thickening thin lines and opening tight gaps, and send you a free mockup.
  3. Screen preparation. Each colour is separated and burned onto its own screen. We match colours to your Pantone references.
  4. Test print on your fabric. Puff reacts differently on different fabrics, so we test on the real thing. You approve colour, height, placement and feel before bulk.
  5. Bulk printing and curing. Production begins only after your sign-off. Heat control matters here, because it decides how far the ink rises and whether it bonds properly.
  6. Quality control. See below.
  7. Labelling, packing and shipping. Neck labels, hang tags and branded packaging can be added at the same time. We send photos and videos during production and ship worldwide.

Quality Control for Puff Printing

Quality control is what protects your brand when you hire a puff printing clothing manufacturer. Every order goes through our three-level QC system. For puff printing, the checks include:

  • Consistent raise, so every piece in the run has the same height
  • Edge sharpness, with no blurred outlines or filled-in gaps
  • Registration, so puff and flat colours line up
  • Colour accuracy against your approved sample and Pantone reference
  • Cure test on sample pieces from the run, to confirm the ink is fully cured
  • Final inspection for uneven expansion, stains and fabric flaws before packing

Rejected pieces are removed, not shipped.

Caring for Puff Printed Garments

Puff prints last longest with gentle care. We recommend telling your customers to wash the garment inside out, avoid very high heat in the dryer, and never iron directly on the print, since heat can flatten the raise. We can add this to the care label on your garments.

What Affects Puff Printing Cost

Every puff printing clothing manufacturer prices a little differently. We quote per project, because the price depends on a few clear factors:

  • Number of colours, since each one needs its own screen
  • Print size, because larger puff areas use more ink
  • Oil-based or water-based puff
  • Combination with flat prints or other finishes
  • Garment type and fabric
  • Quantity, as setup costs are spread across more pieces on bigger runs
  • Whether the design is new or a repeat. Reorders can be cheaper, since we can reuse existing screens

For more on pricing, see our price guide. We give a written quote before any work starts, so there are no surprise charges.

We work with clothing startups, established streetwear and activewear labels, sports teams and schools, and companies ordering branded apparel. Some customers order a first run to test a design. Others come back every season with larger orders.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your MOQ as a puff printing clothing manufacturer?

Our MOQ is 30 pieces per design. Because puff printing needs setup for each colour, smaller runs cost more per piece, so we can advise on the most economical quantity for your budget.

Should I choose oil-based or water-based puff?

Choose oil-based puff for a bold, defined raise and strong colour. Choose water-based puff for a softer, more natural feel on cotton. If you are unsure, send us your design and fabric and we will recommend one.

How high does the puff rise?

The height depends on the ink, the heat and the fabric. We show you the result on a test print so you can approve the look before bulk production.

Can you puff print small text or thin lines?

Not well. The ink expands as it rises, so very fine details can blur. We will thicken lines or simplify the artwork, or suggest another method such as flat printing or embroidery for small details.

Will the puff print crack or peel?

A properly cured print on a suitable fabric should hold up through regular washing. Cracking usually comes from under-curing, printing across seams, or heavy coverage on stretchy fabric. We test on your fabric first and check curing during production.

Can you puff print on polyester and sportswear fabrics?

It is possible but needs care. Polyester can bleed dye into light ink colours, and stretch fabric can crack a raised print. Tell us the fabric and we will test before recommending puff.

Can you combine puff with other prints or embroidery?

Yes. Puff can sit alongside flat screen printing, high-density, metallic inks or embroidery on the same garment.

Can I get a sample before bulk production?

Yes. We recommend a test print on your fabric so you can approve colour, height and placement. See our sample policy for details on cost and timing.

How long does production take?

It depends on the quantity and complexity of the work. Share your design or mockup and we will give you an exact turnaround, confirmed in writing before we start.

Can you add my labels, hang tags and packaging?

Yes. Woven or printed neck labels, hang tags and custom packaging can be added in the same order.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. As a puff printing clothing manufacturer working with brands abroad, we ship worldwide and share shipping options and estimated delivery times before production begins.
