What Is Screen Printing, and Why Work With a Screen Printing Clothing Manufacturer?

Screen printing pushes ink through a fine mesh screen onto the fabric. Each colour in your design needs its own screen, and the garment is printed one colour at a time. Because the setup work is done once and then repeated across the whole run, the cost per piece drops as quantities grow.

Brands choose it because:

  • The colour is strong. Ink sits on or in the fabric at full strength, so blacks are deep and brights stay bright.
  • It lasts. Properly cured screen prints hold up through years of washing.
  • It is consistent. The 500th shirt looks like the 5th.
  • It supports special effects. Raised puff, glossy high-density, metallic and other finishes are hard to get with digital methods.

The trade-off is setup. Every colour means a screen, which is why screen printing suits repeat designs and medium to large runs better than one-off pieces.

Screen Printing Methods We Offer

Different inks give different results. A good screen printing clothing manufacturer will tell you honestly which one suits your garment and your brand, even when it is not the most expensive option, and that is how we work.

Plastisol Printing

A durable, opaque ink that prints well on almost any colour of cotton and cotton blends. It is the standard choice for bold graphics, streetwear and team wear. It cures under heat, so proper temperature control matters and we check it during production.

Water-Based Printing

The ink soaks into the fibres instead of sitting on top. The result is a soft, breathable print with a lived-in feel, best on 100% cotton and lighter garments. It is popular with premium and vintage-style labels.

Discharge Printing

The ink removes the dye from the fabric and replaces it with colour. It gives the softest possible hand feel on dark garments, but only works on 100% cotton. We will warn you if your fabric will not react properly.

Puff Printing

An additive in the ink expands under heat and gives the design a raised, textured surface. We run both oil-based and water-based puff. Oil-based puff gives a bold, defined raise; water-based puff has a softer, more natural feel. Good for logos, lettering and details on hoodies and varsity-style pieces.

High-Density and 3D Silicone Printing

Layers of thick ink or silicone build a raised, sharp-edged print with a glossy or matte finish and a clear 3D effect. It is often used for streetwear and logo details.

Metallic and Specialty Inks

Gold, silver and other effect inks for accent details.

Screen Printing vs. Other Print Methods

The right method depends on your design and order size, not on what is trendy.

MethodBest forWatch out for
Screen printingBold designs, 1 to 6 colours, repeat orders, special finishesSetup per colour; less economical for very small runs
DTFFull-colour detail, photos, small runsDifferent feel from ink printing; less suited to some specialty finishes
DTGVery small quantities on cottonSlower and pricier at volume
EmbroideryLogos on caps, jackets, polosNot suited to large, solid graphics

An honest screen printing clothing manufacturer will also tell you when another method fits better. If your design has ten colours and a gradient, we will likely suggest DTF instead of screen printing. If you plan to reorder the same hoodie every season, screen printing usually gives you the best price and consistency.

How Our Screen Printing Process Works

  1. Send your brief. Artwork, garment type, quantity and target colours. Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) are best; a clear PNG works to start.
  2. Artwork check and mockup. We review the file for print problems (fine lines that will fill in, colours that need separating, sizes that won’t fit the placement) and send you a free mockup.
  3. Colour separation and screen preparation. Each colour is separated and burned onto its own screen. We match colours to your Pantone references.
  4. Sample or strike-off. We print a test on your actual fabric, because ink behaves differently on different fabrics. You approve colour, size, placement and feel before bulk.
  5. Bulk printing and curing. Production begins only after your sign-off. Curing is checked during the run, because an under-cured print is the most common reason prints crack or wash out.
  6. Quality control. See below.
  7. Labelling, packing and shipping. Neck labels, hang tags and branded packaging can be added at the same time. We send photos and videos during production and arrange worldwide shipping.

Our Quality Control

Quality control is what protects your brand when you hire a screen printing clothing manufacturer. Every order goes through our three-level QC system. For screen printing, the checks include:

  • Colour accuracy against your approved sample and Pantone reference
  • Registration, meaning each colour lines up so edges are sharp and nothing is doubled
  • Placement and size, measured from a fixed point (collar, hem or seam) on every garment
  • Ink coverage and hand feel, so there are no thin patches or stiff spots
  • Cure test on sample pieces from the run, to confirm the ink is fully cured before the order ships
  • Final inspection for stains, misprints and fabric flaws before packing

Rejected pieces are removed, not shipped.

What Affects Screen Printing Cost

Every screen printing clothing manufacturer prices a little differently. We quote per project, because the price depends on a few clear factors:

  • Number of colours, since each one needs its own screen
  • Print size and number of placements (front, back, sleeve, neck)
  • Garment type and fabric
  • Ink type and finish, where puff, high-density and specialty inks cost more than standard plastisol
  • Quantity, as setup costs are spread across more pieces on bigger runs
  • Whether the design is new or a repeat. Reorders can be cheaper, since we can reuse existing screens for repeat designs

For more on how pricing works in general, see our price guide. We give a written quote before any work starts, so there are no surprise charges.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your MOQ as a screen printing clothing manufacturer?

Our MOQ is 30 pieces per design. Because screen printing needs setup for each colour, smaller runs cost more per piece, so we can advise on the most economical quantity for your budget.

How many colours can you print?

Send us your design and we will confirm how many colours can run on each placement. More colours mean more screens and a higher cost, so simplifying artwork often saves money without hurting the design.

Can you match my brand’s Pantone colours?

Yes. Send us your Pantone references and we match inks to them. Fabric colour and ink type affect the final look, which is why we recommend a strike-off on your actual garment before bulk.

Will the print crack, peel or fade?

A properly cured print on a suitable fabric should stay in good condition through regular washing. Most problems come from under-curing, the wrong ink for the fabric, or heavy ink coverage on stretchy material. This is why we test on your fabric first and check curing during production.

Can you screen print on polyester and sportswear fabrics?

Yes, but with care. Polyester can bleed dye into light ink colours (dye migration), so we use blocking or low-bleed inks where needed. If you want full-coverage designs on performance fabric, we may recommend sublimation instead.

What artwork files do you need?

Vector files (AI, EPS or PDF) are ideal. High-resolution PNGs also work. If you only have a sketch or a low-quality logo, our design team can redraw it for you.

Can I get a sample before bulk production?

Yes. We recommend a strike-off or pre-production sample so you can approve colour, size and placement. See our sample policy for details on cost and timing.

How long does production take?

It depends on the quantity and complexity of the work. Share your design or mockup and we will give you an exact turnaround, confirmed in writing before we start.

Can you add my labels, hang tags and packaging?

Yes. Woven or printed neck labels, hang tags and custom packaging can be added in the same order.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. As a screen printing clothing manufacturer working with brands abroad, we ship worldwide and share shipping options and estimated delivery times before production begins.
