Acid Wash Clothing Manufacturer for Private Label Brands
Acid wash gives a garment a past. The marbled, sun-worn, lived-in look says vintage and streetwear before anyone reads the label, and no two pieces come out exactly alike. Fashion Flair is an acid wash clothing manufacturer based in Sialkot, Pakistan. We make and wash hoodies, sweatshirts, tees, joggers and shorts for private label brands, with six wash styles, one contact and one timeline.
This guide explains each wash type, which fabrics work, how we keep a collection consistent when every piece is different, and what to send us for a quote.

What Is Acid Wash?
Despite the name, classic acid wash does not use acid. Garments are tumbled with pumice stones soaked in a strong oxidising agent, such as chlorine bleach or potassium permanganate. The stones scrape and bleach the raised parts of the fabric, which leaves a high-contrast, marbled pattern. The garment is then neutralised and rinsed so the process stops.
Modern washes use several other methods, from enzymes to hand-sprayed solutions. Each gives a different result, and that is why we offer six.
Acid Wash Types We Offer
As an acid wash clothing manufacturer, we match the wash to your brand, your fabric and your budget. Here is what each style does.
1. Traditional Chlorine Acid Wash (The Classic Snow Wash)
The original. Pumice stones soaked in chlorine tumble against the garment and bleach it into a stark white-and-dark marble. It is bold, high-contrast and instantly recognisable. Best for: retro, 90s-style and streetwear pieces where the wash is the statement.
2. Enzyme Acid Wash (Eco-Friendly / Bio-Stone Wash)
Enzymes break down tiny surface fibres to fade the colour and soften the fabric. It is generally gentler on the garment than a chlorine wash and gives a smoother, more even, softer result with less contrast. Best for: soft, premium basics and brands that want a gentler process.
3. Permanganate Spray / Tie-Acid Wash (Hand-Sprayed Splash)
A permanganate solution is sprayed by hand onto the garment, often over twisted or tied fabric. This creates splashes and mottled patches in exactly the areas you choose, so each piece is unique. Best for: bold splash looks and designs with placed patterns.
4. Sun Fade
A soft, uneven fade that looks like months in the sun. The colour lightens most on the shoulders, chest and sleeves, the way real sunlight would. It is subtle, wearable and easy to style. Best for: vintage tees, hoodies and loungewear.
5. Tinted / Over-Dyed Acid Wash (Vintage Mud / Mineral Wash)
The garment is washed, then over-dyed with a muted tint. The result is an earthy, mineral look in warm greys, browns and faded colours, like old stone. Best for: heritage, workwear and premium streetwear collections.
6. Reverse Acid Wash (Dark-on-Light)
The classic wash flipped. Instead of light marbling on a dark garment, dark marbling appears on a light or pre-faded base. It is unexpected, and it stands out from the usual snow wash. Best for: brands wanting a fresh take on a familiar look.
Which Wash Is Right for Your Brand?
| Wash | Look | Contrast | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snow wash | Bold white marbling | High | Retro and statement streetwear |
| Enzyme wash | Soft, even fade | Low to medium | Soft premium basics |
| Permanganate spray | Splashes and patches | Medium to high | Placed, unique patterns |
| Sun fade | Natural sun-bleached fade | Low | Vintage tees and hoodies |
| Mineral wash | Muted, earthy tint | Medium | Heritage and workwear |
| Reverse acid wash | Dark marbling on light | Medium to high | Fresh, distinctive collections |
Send us a reference photo and your garment, and we will recommend a wash and show you a sample.
Fabrics That Work for Acid Wash
| Fabric | Result |
|---|---|
| 100% cotton jersey and fleece | Best choice. Takes every wash type well |
| Garment-dyed or pigment-dyed cotton | Strongest contrast, because the colour fades easily |
| Cotton-rich blends | Works, with a softer and less dramatic result |
| Stretch fabric with elastane | Needs care. Chlorine can weaken elastane, so we suggest a gentler wash |
| Polyester and synthetics | Not suitable. They do not fade with these methods |
Washing also shrinks cotton and reduces its strength a little, especially with the harsher washes. We choose heavier fabrics and plan the size chart for shrinkage, so the finished garment still fits.
Every Piece Is Different. How Do We Keep a Collection Consistent?
Acid wash is never exact, and we do not promise identical pieces. We promise a consistent look.
- A master sample. You approve one washed sample. It becomes the reference for contrast, pattern and colour.
- An agreed range. We agree the acceptable variation before production starts.
- Controlled batches. Garments in one order are washed under the same settings, so results stay close.
- Photo approvals. We send photos during production, so you can check the look while there is still time to adjust.
Acid Wash vs. Tie Dye vs. Garment Dye
| Method | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Acid wash | Removes colour in patterns, giving a worn, marbled look | Vintage and streetwear |
| Tie dye | Adds colour in patterns | Bright, playful designs |
| Garment dye | One even, deep colour | Rich solid colours |
| Sublimation | Prints a pattern on polyester | Repeatable looks on synthetics |
An honest acid wash clothing manufacturer will tell you when a different effect fits better. If you need identical pieces or your fabric is polyester, we will suggest another approach.
Design Tips From an Acid Wash Clothing Manufacturer
- Pick the base colour first. Dark and mid-tone cotton shows the most dramatic wash. Pale garments show little change.
- Decide how bold you want it. Snow wash is loud, enzyme and sun fade are quiet. Choose the one that fits your brand.
- Add branding after washing. Washing would damage prints and stitching, so logos go on afterwards, using screen printing, puff, DTF or embroidery.
- Plan the thread. Polyester thread does not fade, so seams can stay darker than the fabric. We choose thread to match your look.
- Allow for shrinkage. Washing changes the fit, so we plan the pattern and size chart together.

- Hoodies and sweatshirts (see Streetwear)
- Oversized and boxy T-shirts
- Joggers, sweatpants and shorts
- Cotton jackets and tracksuits

How Our Acid Wash Process Works
- Send your brief. Garment type, quantity, colours, wash style and reference photos.
- Mockup and wash recommendation. We confirm the fabric and base colour, recommend a wash and send a free mockup.
- Master sample. We make a washed sample in your style. You approve it, with the acceptable range, before bulk.
- Washing. Garments are washed with the agreed method, whether snow wash, enzyme, spray, sun fade, tint or reverse.
- Neutralising and rinsing. The wash is stopped and rinsed out, so the garment is safe to wear and the look stays stable.
- Drying and finishing. Garments are dried and checked, then branding is added if needed.
- Quality control. See below.
- Labelling, packing and shipping. Neck labels, hang tags and branded packaging can be added at the same time. We send photos and videos during production and ship worldwide.
For the full picture of an order, read our manufacturing process and sample policy.
Our Quality Control
Quality control is what protects your brand when you hire an acid wash clothing manufacturer. Every order goes through our three-level QC system. For acid wash, the checks include:
- Pattern and contrast against your approved master sample and agreed range
- Even washing, so there are no unintended patches or streaks
- Fabric condition, with no thin spots, holes or damage from the wash
- Measurements after washing, to catch shrinkage against your size chart
- Colour bleeding check on sample pieces, so colour does not run in the wash
- Final inspection for stitching, stains and fabric flaws before packing
Rejected pieces are removed, not shipped.
If your market requires restricted-substance compliance or colour fastness testing, such as OEKO-TEX, REACH or ISO 105, tell us before production starts.
Caring for Acid Wash Garments
Acid wash garments keep their look best with gentle care. We recommend telling your customers to wash in cold water, inside out and separately at first, with mild detergent. Avoid bleach and strong sunlight when drying. The wash may soften slightly over time, which is part of the character. We can add care instructions to your garment labels.
What Affects Acid Wash Cost
Every acid wash clothing manufacturer prices a little differently. We quote per project, because the price depends on a few clear factors:
- Wash type, because hand-sprayed and multi-step washes take more labour than a standard wash
- Garment type and fabric weight
- Extra steps such as over-dyeing for mineral wash or reverse acid wash
- Added decoration such as printing or embroidery
- Quantity, as sampling and setup costs are spread across more pieces
- Trims, labels and packaging
For more on pricing, see our price guide. We give a written quote before any work starts, so there are no surprise charges.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is your MOQ as an acid wash clothing manufacturer?
Our MOQ is 30 pieces per design. Washing is done in batches, so very small runs cost more per piece, and we can advise on the most economical quantity for your budget.
Does acid wash really use acid?
Usually not. Classic acid wash uses chlorine bleach or potassium permanganate, which are oxidising agents. The name comes from the harsh, chemical look of the result.
What is the difference between snow wash and enzyme wash?
Snow wash uses pumice stones and chlorine for a bold, high-contrast marbled look. Enzyme wash uses enzymes to fade the fabric gently and soften it, with a quieter, more even result.
Will every piece look exactly the same?
No. Acid wash is never identical. Each piece will follow your approved master sample in contrast, pattern and colour, within an agreed range.
What is reverse acid wash?
It flips the usual look. Instead of light marbling on a dark garment, dark marbling appears on a light or pre-faded base.
Which fabrics can you acid wash?
Cotton and cotton-rich jersey and fleece work best. Stretch fabrics need a gentler wash, and polyester does not respond to these methods.
Will the wash weaken the fabric or shrink the garment?
Washing can reduce strength a little and shrinks cotton. We choose suitable fabric weights, plan the size chart for shrinkage and check fabric condition after the wash.
Can you add logos, prints or embroidery on acid wash garments?
Yes. We add branding after washing with puff, screen printing, DTF or embroidery, so it stays sharp.
Can I send my own blank garments to be washed?
No. We are a manufacturer, so we wash only garments we make for your order. That lets us choose fabric and thread that suit washing, test it first, and keep results consistent from the first piece to the last.
Can I get a sample before bulk production?
Yes. We make a master sample for you to approve. See our sample policy for details on cost and timing.
How long does production take?
It depends on the quantity and complexity of the work. Washing, rinsing and drying add time. Share your design or reference photo and we will give you an exact turnaround, confirmed in writing before we start.
Can you add my labels, hang tags and packaging?
Yes. Woven or printed neck labels, hang tags and custom packaging can be added in the same order.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. As an acid wash clothing manufacturer working with brands abroad, we ship worldwide and share shipping options and estimated delivery times before production begins.
